MATHCOUNTS will be quite different this year. There will be a limit of 30 students invited to State and we are looking for 30 volunteers (at least that was the last email – but I am expecting some additional guidance coming next week, so I have not started truly recruiting yet).
Regardless, all state competitions will occur at the same time – Thursday, March 25th at 7:00 pm ET. There will be no team round and no countdown round this year. The competition is expected to last about 2 hours and 4 winners will advance to the National competition.
The competition will be held on-line and the proctors are a bit of an issue as is COVID. We cannot have coaches, teachers or parents be proctors – and we are not entirely sure what the climate will be like at the end of March. Some students may need to be at home, while I will try to make a location available with proper social distancing available for students in the Phoenix area – Tucson and Yuma may also do the same – we are asking for each coordinator to reach out and provide 5 proctors from their chapter…
If you are willing and able to help, I would appreciate your help this March. As I get more information together over the upcoming weeks, I will be sure to share them with you.
